An outstanding & cost effective tool

Postby Trevor Grace » Thu Oct 02, 2008 7:33 am

I've used version 1.8 of Qualify on a number of in-house testing projects over the past 6 months. In my opinion it's an outstanding & cost effective test case management tool. It's facilitated the building of a repository of re-useable test cases, enabled me to better manage the test process and leverage the benefits of testware re-use.

Some features I'd like to see: (appreciate they may already be in a later version)

(1) The ability to archive closed assignments.
After completing and closing off an assignment it would be useful to be able to archive the assignment & it's associated test results. The closed assignments would be removed from the main page but still viewable via a "view history" feature.

(2) The view filters on the main page to remain set when navigating to another page. Currently the filters have to be re-set each time you navigate back to the main page.

(3) To be able to edit/add/delete steps in a test case during test execution.
Currently if the test steps need to be revised, you have to revise & assign the test plan again.

(4) To be able to select multiple builds to report on.
Currently you can only select all builds, a single build, the last 5 builds or the last 10 builds.

(5) To be able to select multiple plans to report on.
Currently you can only select all plans or a single plan.

(6) Admin function to edit/add/delete builds.
Currently you can only add a build at assignment time.

Trevor,
Thanks for the excellent feedback!

(1) The ability to archive closed assignments.
After completing and closing off an assignment it would be useful to be able to archive the assignment & it's associated test results. The closed assignments would be removed from the main page but still viewable via a "view history" feature.

Great suggestion! We'll add this as a feature request that will likely go out with the 2.4 release.

(2) The view filters on the main page to remain set when navigating to another page. Currently the filters have to be re-set each time you navigate back to the main page.

Good point. We'll fix this one too.

(3) To be able to edit/add/delete steps in a test case during test execution.
Currently if the test steps need to be revised, you have to revise & assign the test plan again.

In version 2.3, this can be achieved through a test plan synchronization feature. It allows users to promote changes to existing assignments.

(4) To be able to select multiple builds to report on.
Currently you can only select all builds, a single build, the last 5 builds or the last 10 builds.

I would like to better understand this request. Do you want the ability to "cherry pick" builds that you want to report on? If so, it would be great to understand why so we can consider this in our overall design going forward.

(5) To be able to select multiple plans to report on.
Currently you can only select all plans or a single plan.

Another great point. We're working on a re-design of our reporting piece. This will certainly be considered.

(6) Admin function to edit/add/delete builds.
Currently you can only add a build at assignment time.

As of version 2.0 users have a "Build Manager" that allows for the creation and editing of builds. Builds still cannot be deleted though.

I would recommend upgrading to the current version. It won't cost you anything. Be aware though - due to incompatible database schemas between the 1.x and 2.x releases, we were unable to support the migration of repositories.

Once again thanks for the great feedback! We'll keep you posted as we roll out some of your suggestions.

In version 1.8 there’s no support for cross project reporting - being able to "cherry pick" builds to report on would be useful. A testing project here will invariable involve a number of different applications each with their associated build numbers. By cherry picking builds to report on I can get a consolidated view of the overall testing project status.
